There are long term goals in this game:

PVP: join a guild that suits you and become better and better, compete on the ladder and maybe even tournaments. Or play pvp just for fun.

PVE: You can play for special titles. Or Farm, chestruns (look for chests which you open and can contain rare and less rare items), become a trader and buy/sell, elite missions where you can buy very expensive armor and weapons but they're not better just different looks. Or a combination of the above options.

With every new chapter you'll have new goals, new titles etc. Level cap at 20 is a good thing, it means there is actually more endgame content as they can design more for that level. It's a very smart design.

The graphics are very good imo, gameplay is faster than for example wow or any other mmo I know. I like the sound too.

If you buy 2, I would suggest Prophecies and Nightfall.

Personally I would start with prophecies only, if you have a lot of time to play that is, hardcore style of player. learn the game, athmosphere etc. Enjoy the ride, especially the starting area called 'pre-sear'. That area has something magical to a lot of players. Continue with Factions and then Nightfall.

If you're a casual gamer, like in a few hours a week of play time, I would buy Nightfall only. There are rumours chapter 4 will come out in august 2007. Might be interesting to know to make up your mind.

Try asking for a trial 10 Hours Key and play around in them first before actually deciding for yourself if it is worth buying, which i believe would be the best course of action.

Which brings up a surprising issue that Anet dont provide limited free trial keys/account to the public like many other MMOs out there, which seems to suggest that they are perhaps not too confident of their own product though others may argue that it would tax Anet's resources unneccessary.

Dont pick NF because about the possibility that there are more people there, everyone who is there is playing with his heroes. Human party's are rare over there.

Ide say pick prophecies, Still enough people around and the storyline is great + its the start of GW so i think you should start with number 1 of GW instead of 3.

Which ever two you buy, you have to get prophercies and play it first.

If your to gain any real respect in GWs (in my opinion), you'l play through the first one and earn everything the way your meant to.

Then play the rest.

I say that because Prophercies is very different to factions and nightfall.

In prophercies you work for everything.

You have to play through most of the game before you get access to max armor, max weapons, before you reach the max lvl and before your able to change your secondary profession by doing quests.

This is compared to factions where your virtually given everything within just a few missions and you just have to pay to change your secondary.

Nightfall is a better then factions, but still nothing on prophercies.

Prophercies is a longer game with 25 missions, compared to 20 in nightfall and 13 in factions.

Its just more work and alot more satisfying to do and complete.

Plus the best bit is that armor is unique to each class of a profession.

For example a fire elemental has different armor to a water elemental.

Where as in factions and nightfall, all elemental armor is the same.

Aslong as you do proph first, then which ever after, id have respect for you. The again if you everything straight away then play nightfall or factions.

I would suggest buying Prophecies and Nightfall (but not the collectors edition the mini-pet sucks in it the art book is kind of cool but that is about it not worth the extra $).

If you just want to try it out get Prophecies the leveling is slower but it gives you time to figure out how things work and you don’t have to buy skills unlike Factions and Nightfall. It is difficult starting out when you have to not only purchase armor but skills as well. Not only that but after you have knocked around in Prophecies and tried out all of the characters you will have a lot of unlocked skills for your Nightfall and Factions characters or your heroes. As far as game content goes IMO Prophecies has the most followed by Nightfall and then Factions.

If you can afford it get all three. In doing so you will have access to all of the skills, professions and game content.

I have been playing since the start of this summer and if you're not the kind of player who blazes through games then you will have plenty of game content. I am just now on the verge of beating Prophecies. I have been playing every day but instead of concentrating on one chapter I have been jumping back and forth gathering skill, items, and heroes then coming back to finish one chapter at a time. That however is on hiatus now so I can farm stuff for the up in coming Wintersday event.

Before I bought any of the GW games I did some research into them on Guru and GuildWiki. GuildWiki can give you a better understanding about how everything works, but beware there are a lot of spoilers on that site.

I am going to agree with what a lot of people here are saying, which is to go for Prohecies first. It's a nice slow introduction to the game as a whole and lets you learn about your chosen professions, the skills available to you and how to combine your skills and adjust your attributes for the best effect without feeling rushed by anything.

My copy of Nghtfall hasn't arrived yet, so I can't give an opinion on that chapter yet, but I will say that Factions is not the most ideal choice if you're just starting out with GW. The learning curve in Factions is very steep, character development happens at lightning speed, and it's very easy to feel overwhelmed and frustrated by it at the beginning. Although if it's a real challenge that you're looking for, then go for Factions - it does offer a much better adrenaline kick than Prophecies does, and forces you to think a lot harder right off the bat (personally, I've come to really enjoy Factions because of this aspect).

I'd say Nightfall, if you need a booster for it I'd say Factions. Several of the most compelling reasons to get Prophecies, as far as skill collection, got knocked out with the Factions buff. i.e. Spoil Victor's a boss-killing superhex now, most of the good monk elites are in Factions, etc.

Factions gives you a spot to power-level and broaden your skill set, even though many of Factions' skills are still downright terrible, Nightfall gives you a more enjoyable campaign. Prophecies gives you e-drama as people brace for another Drok's run nerf. :P

I'd buy Prophecies. Its beginner area is better that of Factions and Nightfall because high level characters can't access it. You get skills for free and there are hidden stashes of weapons you can sell or use yourself. Once you leave weapons have requirements to wield them. Another plus is that if a mission is too hard you can usually skip it until later. This means alot of running around but sometimes its better than the alternative. Later in the game you have to finish missions to further the story but by they you'll be level 20 and more than ready to handle higher level content. After Prophesies I'd get Nightfall. Factions can be extremely frustrating and most of the missions are of different type than Prophesies. I agree that there are more people in Nightfall than either of the other games but that shouldn't stop you from getting Prophesies. Once you join a guild ask your guildmates for help on the missions. I've both helped guildies and have been helped. Once I thought I could just go through the game with no guild but after being a member of one for a month and a half I wonder how I ever survived before.

I can't comment on PvP. I don't engage in it and am not likely to any time soon.

buying all 3 has its benefits
i have all 3 and i like it and i play in all 3 (even that i beated all 3 campaigns)

well i bought NF and its pretty good ... first impresions - nice graphics
-nice party system with henchmen and heroes
-im only on the small island now and i think its pretty big lol
-i made a dervish ... idk how the other classes are but this is kinda hard to play cuz u have to buff a lot and i always rush to mobs
- havent tried pvp mode yet so cant say much about it

and i think im gonna make another char cuz i kinda messed up on this one made a d/w ... waht class would u guys suggest for a newb like me?

Grats on getting Nightfall.

For a new player to GW and Nightfall, i would suggest Paragon/Warrior.

For some ideas on builds for Paragon check here:

1) High AL armour (80 at max with a shield+16)- provides greater survivability.

2) Range character class- allows you to take a back seat and watch both how your party interacts as well as the enemy and aquire/develop tactical awareness.

3) Since the Paragon class requires Adrenaline for its shout, its synergizes well with the warrior class which have their own set of adrenline based skills. The two class complements each other well. There are also some interesting Melee Paragon builds which are fun to play as well.

As a new player, Make use of the Hero skill trainers to equip yourself/Heros with more skills that you otherwise will have to use gold to buy, and use Factions gained from PvP to unlock potentially useful skills/Elites to your account. Doing this will allow you to create stronger Heros that will help you through the game and make the experience much more enjoyable in the PvE.

Hero advice: concentrate on leveling up your monk Heros first. During first Hero choice btwn Jin and Sosuke, choose Jin since you will obtain a ele Hero as part of the main storyline later. At second Hero choice stage, choose Master of Whisper instead of Margrid, his quests line is easier and a necro Hero is useful as an MM. ----(this section is heavily opinated and contains my own personal biases, hence not everyone will agree)

Lastly, everytime you go out of a town for quest and what not, go to the rez shrine and speak to the guy there to get a blessing which gives you sunspear points for each of the creature type he specify you to kill. Dont be too obsessed with farming those points, you need only 300 to get the 2 extra 15 point attributes, there will be more quest/blessings that will give you more points on the mainland.

If you are only interested in PvP, then forget what i said and go jump off a bridge. JKing.

Try Warrior or Elementalist, they are pretty straightforward.

You don't need to delete your D/W if you do not wish to, the good thing about GW is that it's quite impossible to screw up a character (unless you screwed up how you wanted the character to look). If you're not happy with the secondary profession, it can be changed not long after you have reached the mainland in NF. As for attributes, you can always readjust them when you are in town/outpost.

It's great to hear that you like NF, heroes may be abit daunting for new players but if you're resourceful or a zealous player, it shouldn't be much of a problem. If you're ever lost, you could check out GuildWiki (http://gw.gamewikis.org/) on some info. Have fun.

EDIT: Thallandor has included a couple of good pointers on Bounty (i.e. blessings); it's a good guideline to follow for starters and remember not to get too obsessed with over-farming for Sunspear points (as you get double the points on mainland and hogging up those points isn't really the objective at the start).
